Finally I’m starting to come to the end of going through all the photographs we took during a year of hiking and traveling in New Zealand and Australia. During the entire 4500km across New Zealand, Stewart Island and Australia we made self-portraits, inspired by other hikers who had done the same along the PCT. And well, we were curious. Would we look different after all those kilometres? Would we really have lost a lot of weight? We think it’s pretty interesting to watch it now. As we progress through the hikes, our faces become far less puppy-like (especially PJ’s, I would say) and our facial outlines a lot sharper. Towards the end we can see now that we came to the end of our own strengths, looking very thin and tired, but happy with what we achieved. On some pictures we smile, on some we nearly cry, on some we are very angry, on some we are exhausted. But that’s how it is. And mostly, we smiled. Even when we think back about all the blood, sweat and tears now, we still do.
